Fionnuala Rooney

Fionnuala Rooney is an accomplished harper originally from Scotstown, Co. Monaghan and now residing in Quin, Co. Clare.  She has had great success winning All-Ireland harp titles as well as the prestigious Granard and Keadue competitions at every age category.  As a young harper, Fionnuala was a member of the Belfast Harp Orchestra under the direction of Janet Harbison and featured on Grammy award winning album The Celtic Harp in collaboration with the Chieftains. Indeed Fionnuala toured Europe and America with the Belfast Harp Orchestra and Australia with Ceol Chiarrai.  More recently,  she has gone on to become at established adjudicator at provincial and All-Ireland level and it is in the area of harp tuition that Fionnuala’s main passion now lies.  Multiple past pupils have gone on to win All-Ireland titles under her guidance.  Having studied Music Education in Trinity College Dublin, followed by a Masters in Music Performance at the University of Limerick, Fionnuala is the Music Teacher for all year groups in St. Flannan’s College, Ennis.  She has recently completed composition for Music Generation in Co. Clare and enjoys performing as part of the group Harping On, showcasing the music of the harp over several centuries.
